Ania ti Inabel? (What is Inabel?)

Inabel or Abel Iloco is a traditional handwoven fabric using hardwood pedal loom. In Ilocano, "abel" comes from the root word weave while "inabel" refers to woven fabric.

Inabel weaving dates back several centuries and believed to have been practiced before the arrival of Spanish colonizers (before 16th century). It was part of the pre-colonial Ilocano daily life providing clothing, blankets and other fabric needs. Crafted using a traditional wooden loom, it is characterized by its intricate patterns and lively colors. Its exceptional craftsmanship and cultural significance have made Inabel an important part of Filipino heritage and a symbol of the country's rich weaving tradition.
